Montano Thompson, LLC was originally established in 2013, by attorney Leslie M. Thompson. Ms. Thompson is a native of New Mexico, but earned her higher education degrees in Chicago, Illinois. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from DePaul University, and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Estate Planning from the John Marshall Law School. Ms. Thompson first worked in Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities in the Global Securitization Trust Services division of LaSalle Bank, N.A., in Chicago, where she acted as Trustee and Custodian for LaSalle’s Wall-Street Investment firm clients. Locally, Ms. Thompson has many years of practice experience in commercial litigation, real estate transactions and related issues, tax audit representation, business and commercial law issues, and estate and tax planning, as well as estate and gift tax preparation.
Ms. Thompson believes that although she has worked very hard to become specialized in estate planning (what happens to her client’s assets upon their death), her clients are most effectively represented because her practice experience enables her to also represent them when issues occur while they are living. Ms. Thompson works closely with attorneys and other professionals outside her areas of expertise in the community to ensure her clients always have the best possible advice. Her mantra has always been, “I’d rather get halfway to the top helping someone else, than “win” at someone else’s expense,” which is not always a popular viewpoint in today’s world.
